Sustainability

The Kay Group has always believed that business plays a tremendous role in the fabric of the community and society.

We have invested in education and training of our employees as well as a number of children and adults in the community.

We continue to be guided by the Sustainable Development Goals and try everyday to incorporate them into our plans for the future.

The Kay Group has further invested in sustainable technologies as we strongly believe that we must create the future we wish to live in.

We live in a world of linear economies, where resources are extracted wastefully and harmfully. Those resources are further manufactured with negative environmental impact.

Finally, the end product is packaged in plastic and, at the end of its life span, disposed in a landfill or burnt. This releases toxins and other elements into the soil and sky.

Our vision is to play our part in transforming Nigeria, and eventually the world, from linear economies to a circular ones, where resources are conserved and reused instead of wasted and disposed.

Our latest venture in this space is the launch of the first recycling vending machine in Nigeria in partnership with Silverbird Galleria.

The machine receives plastic bottles and issues rewards to incentivise recycling.

Once the bottle is inserted into the machine, it is crushed automatically, making the recycling process much easier.

The bottles are then collected and recycled through strategic partners.

The Economist states that only 9% of the plastic in the world is recycled.

Plastic bottles are safe, strong and consumer friendly. They are also made from PET which is 100% recyclable. Old bottles can make new bottles and other items such as shirts and bags.

However, a major hurdle to recycling is changing consumer behaviour as places to recycle are scarce.

The Kay Group hopes installing recycling machines in strategic locations will reduce the barriers to recycling as consumers will find it convenient to put the bottle in the machine instead of throwing it away.

The customer will also be rewarded each time they recycle, further incentivising them.

The Kay Group intends to enter into strategic agreements with retailers, telecom companies and entertainment venues to obtain these rewards.

The machine also has a front display screen enabling companies to advertise and help promote sustainable values.
